“I got suspended for fighting, and now I’m in a program called Boomerang to help me think about what happened and how to do better. I’ve learned that my choices really matter and that sometimes I act upset instead of saying how I feel. That’s called being passive-aggressive. I also used to think people don’t change, but now I’m learning about a growth mindset, which means I can get better if I try… These things will help me in life and also on the basketball court, where I can be a better teammate and stay focused.

RISE
During the 2025-2026 school year, 50 students from 14 schools within the Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools districts participated in RISE programming.
