Resilient Schools & Systems Initiative
Building Adult Capacity. Strengthening Relationships. Creating Resilient Communities.
rSSI wORKSHOPS AND tRAININGS
The Resilient Schools & Systems Initiative (RSSI) is Boomerang Youth's professional learning and training initiative designed to strengthen the adults and systems that support young people.
We believe that creating environments where young people can thrive starts with equipping the adults around them with practical tools to build relationships, respond to stress, foster connection, and create supportive environments.
Piloted in 2025, RSSI is now the umbrella for Boomerang Youth's work with adults—providing professional learning, resilience training, and customized workshops for schools, youth-serving organizations, and community partners.
Our trainings are grounded in relationship-centered practices, social-emotional learning, resilience, restorative approaches, and practical strategies that can be applied immediately.

Strengthening the people and practices behind In-School Suspension.
Boomerang Youth's ISS Coordinator Training is designed for professionals serving students in middle and high school In-School Suspension settings.
ISS can be more than a place where students complete work while separated from their peers. With the right tools and support, it can become an opportunity for students to pause, reflect, reconnect, and re-engage.
Our training equips ISS Coordinators with practical strategies in:
Social-emotional learning
Group facilitation
Relationship-centered student support
Restorative practices
Student engagement
Communication
Responding to challenging moments
Creating supportive ISS environments
Training is paired with year-round coaching and support, helping coordinators apply what they learn and navigate the day-to-day realities of supporting students.
Our goal is to help ISS staff create environments that promote well-being, engagement, connection, and successful re-entry into the school community.

This interactive professional learning experience explores how intentional relationships can create more inclusive, connected, and engaged classrooms.
Rather than adding another initiative to an already full plate, the workshop focuses on changing the order of things educators already do—using everyday interactions as opportunities to build connection and support student success. SEL In Action Workshop Deck
Participants explore the five core social-emotional learning competencies in plain language:
Self-awareness — knowing what I'm feeling
Self-management — doing something about it
Social awareness — reading the room
Relationship skills — repairing what breaks
Responsible decisions — choosing the harder right SEL In Action Workshop Deck
The workshop then moves from understanding to practice through three simple, actionable moves:
CONNECT
Build the relationship before you need it.
Educators explore practical ways to intentionally build relationships with students through everyday moments—such as greeting students by name, learning something about their lives outside of school, and creating opportunities for connection. SEL In Action Workshop Deck
REGULATE
Yours first, then theirs.
Participants learn strategies for managing their own responses during challenging moments and supporting students through regulation and reset. The workshop emphasizes that the adult's nervous system plays an important role in creating a calm and supportive environment. SEL In Action Workshop Deck
CORRECT
Through repair, not just rules.
Educators explore ways to address challenging behavior while maintaining expectations and accountability. Participants practice using restorative questions that focus on what happened, who was affected, and what needs to happen to make things right. SEL In Action Workshop Deck
The workshop is highly interactive and gives educators opportunities to reflect on their own experiences, practice real-world scenarios, and identify specific changes they can make in their classrooms.
Participants leave with a Monday Plan—one strategy they will start, one habit they will stop, and one student they will intentionally connect with. SEL In Action Workshop Deck
The goal isn't to give educators one more thing to do. It's to help them do what they're already doing—more intentionally, relationally, and effectively.
Why RSSI?
Because supporting young people starts with supporting the adults around them. Educators and youth-serving professionals are asked to navigate academic needs, relationships, behavior, emotional well-being, and increasingly complex challenges every day.
RSSI provides practical professional learning that helps adults feel more prepared and supported in that work. Our approach is:
Practical
Tools that can be used immediately—not just information to take back to the office.
Relationship-Centered
Because connection is foundational to learning, engagement, and well-being.
Strengths-Based
Building on the capacity and expertise that educators and organizations already have.
Interactive
Participants learn through reflection, discussion, practice, and real-world scenarios.
Customized
We work with partners to understand their needs and design learning experiences that fit their setting.
Let's Strengthen the Adults Who Support Young People.
Whether you're a school, district, nonprofit, youth-serving organization, or community partner, RSSI can help your team build practical skills and strengthen the environments where young people learn, grow, and connect.
